About Prairie House Quilting

I have been sewing since I was a child. My mother taught me to sew when I was ten years old, and I have never looked back. I made all of the clothes for my children. I continued exploring different aspects of fiber arts throughout my career. I made a zoo full of stuffed animals and sold them at craft fairs during the seventies and eighties. I continued to make clothes, including all of the formals for my daughter as she entered high school.

In 1999, my mother, who is a quilter, was visiting us in Texas. I had never tried quilting and never had much interest in it. She dragged me into a wonderful little quilt shop in Garland Texas, and made me sign up for a beginning quilt class. I remember the instructor/owner of the shop told me that I wouldn’t make any clothes once I started quilting. I did not believe her at the time, but her prediction turned out to be true. I have not stitched one more item of clothing since taking that class! One class turned into another as I learned this wonderful craft. When my husband and I moved from Texas to Iowa we found a cute little house that sits at the edge of the prairie. I decided to start a quilting business out of my home. Because of the location, Prairie House Quilting seemed an appropriate name.

I bought my hand guided APQS Millennium longarm in August of 2003 and took training classes from Sally Terry, and accomplished longarm quilter from Des Moines, Iowa. In addition, I have had the opportunity to take classes from such great teachers as Marilyn Badger, Dawn Cavanaugh, Pam Clark, and Karen McTavish among others. I have learned to perfect my craft, and have become an accomplished longarm quilter. I will continue to educate myself in my profession in order to help my customers.

I quilt many of the trunk show samples for Block Party Studios of Nevada Iowa. Block Party Studios is a pattern design company that creates unique patterns using original hand printed fabrics for wall hangings and quilts with subjects for dog lovers, cat lovers, fabricholics, quiltaholics, religious themes and many others. You can order these patterns and kits at blockpartystudios.com.

I am a member of International Machine Quilters Association, as well as several guilds and quilt groups in my area. I thoroughly enjoy quilting for my customers. They have such talent that it is a pleasure to work on their future heirlooms. I look forward to working on your quilts too.

"I love the quilting Teresa does. She puts a lot of effort in deciding just the right type of quilting to put on my quilts. She does wonderful work."
—Anna, NY

"I asked Teresa to take all of my old racing t-shirts and make a memory quilt out of them. She carefully chose a wonderful background including the colors of a checkered flag and created a keepsake that will last a lifetime. I have shown it to many guests in our home that are very impressed with both the idea and the quality workmanship. A memory quilt is a wonderful idea for that special person you know, who is always hard to find just the right gift for."
Doug, Iowa

"Teresa did a wonderful job on my quilt. She showed me a variety of pantograph patterns and threads to choose from. I chose a variegated thread and a flower pattern that turned out beautifully and complimented the 30's hues that I used in the blocks. Teresa was very helpful in choosing the thread, and stitch pattern, even though the final decision was mine. Teresa gave me an estimated time that she would have the quilting done and to my surprise she was finished earlier than I had expected. I have had the pleasure of seeing some of the quilts she has done. It's exciting! They are each very unique, and will be treasured by the ones that receive them, I'm sure of it! Teresa is a long arm quilter who has the time to quilt a project without having to wait forever. Her full time job is her quilting! I know I'll be back to her home again one of these days, having her do another quilt for me!"
Beth, Iowa

"My mom passed away on May 11th. The (memory) quilt you made meant so much to our family. One of my brothers brought it up to the hospital and we kept it on her for the last two days she was there. It really comforted my Dad. He showed all the nurses and all of her visitors and described all the pictures for everyone. It helped him work through a lot I think. We went back to Kentucky for the funeral and the quilt went with us. The funeral home displayed it during the viewing and during the service so people could look at it and get a glimpse of their life together. It was very special to all of us and I can't thank you enough for the great job you did on it. I just wanted you to know the impact your quilt had on me and my family and how special it was and will always be to us."
Jenna, Texas

"I have taken several quilts to machine quilters only to be disappointed when I received the final product. You can see why I would be hesitant to take one of my quilts to another quilter. BUT, when I received my quilt back from 'Prairie House Quilting', I was more than pleased with the results. Teresa is very creative and has a sense of elegance. I've found my new machine quilter!"
Marlys, Iowa

"When I received my quilt back in the mail from Prairie House Quilting, I was so pleased with the final product that I just had to call Teresa personally and thank her for doing a wonderful job to showcase my embroidered blocks. The quilting really enhanced the look of the embroidered flowers on my quilt. I will definitely be sending my next quilt to Teresa."
